The Regenerative Organic Certification was established in 2017 by a group of framers, business leaders, and experts in soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness collectively called the Regenerative Organic Alliance, or ROA.
ROA exists to repair a damaged planet, dignify farmers with fair salaries, instill animal welfare, and empower consumers to collectively create a better future through regenerative organic farming.
In 2019, Sol Simple was invited to participate in the ROA Pilot Program and became one of the first six Regenerative Organic Certified™ (ROC) companies in the world.
When ROA came to Nicaragua to survey our smallholder farming partner’s farms, we worked hard on-the-ground to collaborate on the robust requirements for soil health, and social and animal welfare. Because our smallholder farms are located in Nicaragua, there were certain landscape, cultural and climatic challenges we were able to work through to achieve our ROC certification. Most of our farms are on hills located at the base of volcanos, which affects crop rotations from volcanic gases and soil erosion. Additionally, all of the guiding framework was translated from English into Spanish for our farming partners to have a deep understanding of the program.
